Shatranj Ke Khilari (The Chess Players)
Shatranj Ke Khilari (The Chess Players) is the film by the great director Satyajit Ray, based on Munshi Premchand's short story of the same name ,made in 1977. Much of the film was shot at locations in Lucknow and Rajasthan.
Umrao Jaan
The movie Umrao Jaan, by Muzaffar Ali had its story and cultural backdrop based in Lucknow. Thus it was shot predominantly in Lucknow, and some parts of Malihabad and Faizabad. One such location was theJehangirabad Palace , now a tragic remnant of what was there that time. Then there were small 'havelis' and palaces in Malihabad that were redecorated. The 'mujra' picturization was done in the Baradari in Lucknow. A small portion of the 'kotha' where the charecter Umrao lived was created in Mumbai's Mehboob Studios.
Junoon (A Flight of Pigeons)
Junoon (A Flight of Pigeons) is a film by Merchant-Ivory productions,featuring Shashi Kapoor, based on Ruskin Bond's story of the same name(A Flight of Pigeons). It was shot in Lucknow and adjoining areas like Kakori, Malihabad and Shajahanpur. To recreate the period of the uprising of 1857, these places were thought to be apt.
Gadar: Ek Prem Katha
This movie was also shot in Lucknow, where the city was depicted as Lahore.
Parts of the movie were shot at La Martiniere Boys' School at Lucknow, a UNESCO Heritage site.

Ishaqzaade
Ishaqzaade, starring debutants Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra had been shot almost entirely in and around Lucknow. A substantial chunk of the film has been shot in a tiny town called Hardoi, some three hours away from city. The movie built under the Yash Raj Films banner was a reasonable success.
Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl
Locations for this movie included the old bylanes of Chowk and the area around the Bada Imambara. The Ranveer Singh starrer , also had Aditi Sharma, a Lucknow girl herself, playing one of the major roles in the movie.
Bullet Raja
A much anticipated movie, Bullet Raja featured Saif Ali Khan with Sonakshi Sinha , Jimmi Shergill, Ravi Kishan and Gulshan Grover . Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia , the film was shot almost enirely in UP and has many scenes shot at Hazratganj , the high street of Lucknow and in the old city area of Chowk.
Youngistaan
This Jackie Bhagnani starrer is said to have a political theme in its storyline. Among other scenes ,the popular song " Suno re Sangemarmar" is said to be shot at the Ambedkar Park in Lucknow.
Daawat-E-Ishq
This just released, romantic comedy featuring Aditya Roy Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Karan Wahi and Anupam Kher
has a major backdrop of Lucknow in its story line,specially the cuisine.Thus it has several of its scenes shot at
various locations around the city .
It is directed by Habib Faisal under YRF productions.
Prominent shooting locations in the city included the Haider House at Narhi and the Christian College .
